How much are these things actually worth?

Medium is a platform where everyone can have their say. It’s different from other social media, because here, one strives to share lucid and fascinating observations, sometimes experiences and even poetry. Yes, poetry. The contributors run the gamut from the genuine neophyte, to folks like a former US President. I mean, what’s not to love about that?

When I first started writing here, friends would ask, “Who writes on Medium?”

And I’d answer, “Lots of people. There’s me, and Barak Obama. ”

It’s quite marvelous, when you think about it. Of course, there are rabbit holes and there are pitfalls. The get rich quick schemes, the trauma dumping, and such.

When I first started writing at Medium,I had no idea what I was doing, other than knowing that it was all about accruing readers and attracting people to my essays.

Pretty early on, I had a piece published in the Writer’s Blokke. It did quite well, but I was not behind the paywall at the time. That took longer to understand. A few months thereafter, I had a piece published in On the Couch. That one did generate a little cash. Then there were a few others, but I didn’t land any big fish.
