This is so powerful. So much of show business today is based on a “capitalism-intersecting-art-perpetuating-racism” theory, but basically, the system that creates and develops musical theater is decidedly racist, and that system is profoundly uninterested in self-examination." All this rings painfully true.

The world as we know it must undergo some kind of seismic change, where the writing does go to a place which we have yet to imagine. Art will take the lead (and it won't be the Broadway musical scene as it currently exists, either). Thank you for this fantastic essay.
