I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at this. I too was admonished with every mouthful, my parents were terrified I’d turn into Shelly Winters (circa Poseidon Adventure) and I certainly grew up feeling like a freak. My mother was naturally slender and dismissive of those who were not. Consequently I passed on this shameful behavior towards my own daughter. Yet we are the ones (ie females) who do it to ourselves!!!! And even now at the age of 60, the first thing I check in any photo I see of myself is whether I look ‘fat’ or not. It’s ridiculous
